đŸ˜± Ludicrous article on Indypendent & Discmania sold for at least 16 MILLION USD!

Hello there! TÔnis AKA Disc Golf Fanatic here with another insight into the disc golf world.

Let’s get right into it!

An “interesting” article appeared, heavily criticizing disc golf

A week ago, an article popped up on indypendent.org headlined: “Disc Golf Drama: Highland Park Users Dismayed at Being Overrun by Outsiders Flinging Dangerous Metal Projectiles” by Sophie L. Gonick, an assistant professor of social and cultural analysis at NYU and a scholar of urban planning and history, poverty, race and gender.

The article talks about the newly installed New York City disc golf course by the Paul McBeth Foundation. Let’s just say
the disc golf community was not very amused by it…

Here are a few responses from the r/discgolf community on Reddit:

Discmania sold for at least ~16 MILLION USD

On Thursday, November 7, 2024, the Finnish tax authority released its annual tax data for 2023. The public tax records list all Finnish taxpayers who earned over 120,000 euros and pay taxes in Finland.

In disc golf, the highest taxpayer is Discmania founder Jussi Meresmaa, who sold his company in 2023 to House of Discs. Meresmaa’s total income in 2023 was 15,396,092 euros. (~16 million USD). Additionally, he said that he invested part of the transaction amount in the parent company (House of Discs) and that he now sits on the board of House of Discs.

  • Jussi Meresmaa built the Discmania brand, which in 2022 had a turnover of almost 30 million euros.
  • Meresmaa, a man who has seen the sport as both a player and an entrepreneur, thinks that players’ fees have skyrocketed too much.

Juho Rantalaiho, Discmania’s former CEO, also earned millions in the same sale. His income for 2023 was 2,431,236 euros, of which approximately 2.36 million was capital income.

Jussi Meresmaa currently serves on the board of House of Discs, while last month, Rantalaiho was appointed CEO of the company’s European operations.

No other disc golf industry figures reached the 120,000-euro threshold in the tax data. Among Finnish players, VÀinö MÀkelÀ, Niklas Anttila, Eveliina Salonen, and Henna Blomroos are known to channel sponsorship income and prize money through personal limited companies.

“It’s not a profit until you sell”

In case you don’t recall, a couple of years ago, Ricky Wysocki signed with Dynamic Discs and received $250,000 USD in Bitcoin as his signing bonus.

With Bitcoin’s price soaring lately, if Ricky is still holding onto his BTC, seeit would now be worth $473,534.60 USD, a solid 89.41% increase!
