🔥 It’s 2024 USDGC/TPWDGC week!

Hello there! Tõnis AKA Disc Golf Fanatic here with another insight into the disc golf world.

Happy? Happy. Happy!

Next up on the Disc Golf Pro Tour:

2024 TPWDGC + USDGC.

The United States Disc Golf Championship (MPO PDGA Major) in Rock Hill, SC, October 10th – October 13th.

In addition, the Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship (a PDGA A-tier) will take place alongside the event.

USDGC/TPWDGC to air on DGN Pro exclusively!

Live on DGN Pro only!

Just like the DGPT announced in the beginning of the 2024 season, the USDGC/TPWDGC live broadcast & next day JomezPro post-production coverage will only be available for DGN Pro users.

This was, of course, met with a lot of criticism.

Click here to read the full DGN announcement.

Key takeaways:

  • Pro subscription will include JomezPro next-day coverage.
  • JomezPro will continue to provide complete post-production coverage of the USDGC and TWPDGC. Next-day coverage will be exclusively available through the DGN Pro subscription for the duration of the event. Starting Thursday, October 24, JomezPro coverage will also be available on DGN Standard and for free on the JomezPro YouTube channel.
  • DGN Pro subscribers will have exclusive access to LIVE coverage of all four tournament rounds. To learn how to upgrade to DGN Pro from DGN Basic or DGN Standard, read this step-by-step explainer.
  • The first round of the USDGC and TPWDGC will also be broadcast LIVE on the DGPT YouTube Channel.

TL;DR: In order to watch USDGC live one needs to buy the DGN Pro package. Otherwise you’d have to wait until 24th October.

All USDGC winners & Runner Ups

Here’s a quick overview of the past winners & runner ups of the USDGC by UDisc.

Take a look at the prize money for a second. Notice the change from 2016-2020 to 2021-2023? It doubled or tripled in just a couple of years. Amazing! I wonder how much are they paying out this year.

In addition, Paul McBeth won the event in 2015, 2018, and 2021, and now it’s 2024. Can he continue his excellence by winning it every third year and take down the dub in 2024?

USDGC course update

The USDGC course and the surrounding area were hit by Hurricane Helene. For instance, here’s a picture of hole 5, where the pond overflowed significantly. Just a few days earlier, the entire peninsula where hole 5 is located was completely underwater.

Here’s another look at the USDGC hole 17 after Hurricane Helene.

After being hit by Hurricane Helene, the USDGC volunteers and staff went to work! Millions of gallons of water were pumped from the overflowing lake, tons of mulch was spread across the course, and 20 truckloads of debris were removed!

The notorious hole 9 is back!

USDGC hole 9 gained fame back in 2021 when they installed those funky mozzarella sticks just in front of the tee pad. In 2022 and 2023, they used fake trees, and now in 2024, they’ve finally decided to feature real trees—but it just looks wrong.

On the bright side, the real trees in front of the teepad at least look better than the fake ones, but seriously, just change the hole’s design already… Because this is whack!

Course changes

There are a few minor tweaks here and there on the course, for example, out-of-bounds area changes, but the biggest change was to hole 3, and to be fair, it’s nothing major. Previously, hole 3’s tee pad was over the road, but in 2024, they moved it next to the building. Just by looking at the image in the 2024 caddie book, it shows that there are a few trees to contend with in front of the teepad.

Fans at the USDGC

A big shoutout to these two fans who wore awesome t-shirts with funny text on them at the 2022 USDGC!

Wild USDGC fact!

Juliana Korver is the only FEMALE player to EVER cash at the USDGC!

JK (then rated 965) cashed way back in 2001, finishing T50th (last cash) alongside Nate Doss (then rated 994).

Juliana Korver finished 37 strokes behind the 2001 winner, Barry Schultz.

Prize for last cash? A solid $83!

On October 6th, 2010, during the USDGC

Back in 2010, there was an interesting incident that took place during the game. MPO player Chris Heeren forgot to put it in park and his car rolled into the lake.

This looks photoshopped at first, but sadly, it is not.

Nate Doss is playing at the 2024 USDGC

3-time World Champion and one-time USDGC Champion Nate Doss is playing at the 2024 USDGC! NB! Nate Doss has never missed cash at the USDGC and has finished in the top 10 nine times!

Doss mentioned that he was only 6–7 strokes back of the cash line and made several ‘amateur’ mistakes at the BSF.

Doss said on the Ultiworld Disc Golf podcast, ‘I do think that I can cash.’

For those who are saying, ‘Good, that means he isn’t in the booth,’ here’s a fun fact: Nate Doss has never commentated on the USDGC!

This’ll be fun!

NFL & Disc Golf

There were numerous reports by disc golfers across the USA, who spotted a disc golf basket on the sidelines at the NFL Bears vs. Panthers game!

FYI! This looks like the MVP Black Hole Pro disc golf basket.

Heartwarming story by James Proctor

“Right before James Proctor’s massive putt for the win at MVP Open, he seemingly stopped his routine to look down at his wrist. We asked him why and this is what he sent us…” – Another Round Disc Golf.

BIG news from Team Disc Golf Estonia!

The team behind the 2024 European Disc Golf Festival has submitted a bid to host the 2026-2027 PDGA Worlds/Major!

PS! The European Disc Golf Festival is already an upcoming PDGA Major on the 2025 DGPT schedule! However, they are also committed to hosting the PDGA Worlds or another Major event in 2026-2027. They would use the Song Festival Grounds venue, and additionally, Kadriorg Park as the location for the second course.

Numerous touring pro players have deemed the 2024 event the best venue and the greatest disc golf event ever organized!

Here is some of the players’ feedback about the event:

  • Wysocki – “From start to finish this event has been the absolute best.”
  • Lizotte – “Top venue, top event, top fans. This stage feels special for disc golf.”
  • Buhr – “This event was crazy! I felt like a true professional athlete walking into this venue ervery day.”
