đŸ˜± Ken Climo leaves Innova after 26+ years!

Hello there! TĂ”nis AKA Disc Golf Fanatic here with another insight into the disc golf world.

Let’s get right into it!

Didn’t have that on my offseason Bingo card

Ken Climo leaves Innova Champions Discs after 26 years.

On Thanksgiving Thursday, November 28th, in a shocking turn of events, Innova and Ken Climo announced that they will be parting ways. And to be precise, Climo LEFT Innova!

The most intriguing part of the story and what really got fans talking? In Innova’s farewell statement, they mentioned that “Ken received an opportunity that he couldn’t pass up.” Hmm, interesting. There is plenty of speculation out there, ranging from “he’s joining Discraft” to “he’s becoming a broadcaster on the DGN.”

Speaking of Ken Climo.

Climo joins X to expose impersonators!

Via X @TheRealKenClimo

Due to multiple impersonators on the X social media platform, 12-time DG World Champion Ken Climo, also known as “The Champ,” has joined X to expose them!

Why does this matter? The most controversial Ken Climo parody account is claiming to be the real Ken Climo, which violates the site’s rules requiring parody accounts to be labeled as such. The fake account wasn’t doing that and was trying to double down on being Ken Climo. He could have easily been reported for impersonation and removed from the platform. The only thing the parody account owner has to do is put ‘PARODY’ in their profile information, and the problem would be solved.

One of the most controversial impersonators made an EPIC FAIL of a mistake that is now trending on all social media platforms. Check the picture – you can’t unsee it once you’ve seen it!

If you still didn’t see it, here’s a better look at the impersonator behind one of the fake accounts:

Ken Climo’s legitimate X handle is @TheRealKenClimo.

Via X @TheRealKenClimo

Additionally, the real Ken Climo posted a short video clip of himself as proof. The clip is one of the most badass “proof” videos out there, showcasing his numerous World Championship trophies, Player of the Year awards, and more!

The funky part is that Ken Climo doesn’t even own a Facebook profile or page. He and his wife have a joint Facebook account. This goes to show how out of hand these impersonators were getting!

Some fans are even speculating that this “clearing the name” move was also part of the move to leave Innova, and Climo is now more active on social media to potentially ramp up his new business ventures. In addition, it looks like someone has even registered the website ClimoDiscs.com!

Hopefully, we’ll see more from the 12-time Disc Golf World Champion soon!

Niklas Anttila & Eveliina Salonen Nominated for the 2024 Finnish Sports Personality of the Year Award!

The annual Finnish Sports Gala has announced the nominees for various awards, with disc golf having a strong presence at the event scheduled for January 16, 2025. A total of three disc golf-related nominees are in contention this year!

Among them is Eveliina Salonen’s 2024 World Championship victory, which has advanced to the top ten in the “Most Inspiring Sports Moment of the Year” vote. Earlier this month, Salonen’s triumph was named as one of dozens of candidates in the preliminary round of voting.

Last year, Finnish NBA player Lauri Markkanen was named Finnish Sports Personality of the Year. This prestigious award is decided through a vote conducted by the Finnish Sports Journalists Association.

You can vote for Eveliina Salonen’s World Championship victory as the “Most Inspiring Sports Moment of the Year” here – https://www.urheilugaala.fi/sykahdyttavin-urheiluhetki

2024 DGPT award winners!

2024 DGPT Most Improved Players are…

FPO Most Improved Player: Eveliina Salonen! This season, Eveliina claimed four victories, including two Majors, breaking a three-year drought without Elite Series or Major wins. She also soared 20 spots higher in the DGPT standings compared to last year!

MPO Most Improved Player: Joseph “Joey Buckets” Anderson! This season, Joseph secured his first Elite Series victory at Idlewild and climbed an incredible 50 spots in the DGPT standings compared to last year!

2024 DGPT Comeback Players are….

FPO Comeback Player: Eveliina Salonen! In the 2024 season, Eveliina claimed her first DGPT victory since 2020 and her first Major title since 2018.

MPO Comeback Player: Gavin Rathbun! After battling back from injury, Gavin delivered an impressive season with multiple Top 10 finishes on Tour.

2024 DGPT Community Champions are…

FPO Community Champion: Kristin Tattar! Selected exclusively by tour card holders, Kristin received this award for her inspiring performance on the course, her role as a key ambassador for the sport in Europe’s growing disc golf scene, and her exemplary influence as a role model for young and aspiring female athletes.

MPO Community Champion: Paul McBeth! Chosen exclusively by tour card holders, Paul earned this award for his unwavering dedication to the Paul McBeth Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to create and promote sustainable disc golf opportunities in underserved communities with little to no access to the sport.

2024 DGPT FPO & MPO Player of the Year are…

MPO Player of the Year, Gannon Buhr! Gannon led the field in starts, wins, Major wins, average place, average rating, and DGPT standings. If this wasn’t UNANIMOUS, the naysayers’ right to vote needs to be revoked!!!

And in a highly debated decision, the 2024 DGPT FPO Player of the Year is Missy Gannon.

Yes, you read that correctly the first time. I honestly thought the DGPT was joking, but sadly, they weren’t.

Via r/discgolf

DGPT Player of the Year awards calculated from the following variables:

  • Media Vote (33% weight);
  • DGPT World Standings (33% weight);
  • Tour Card Holder Vote (33% weight);

FYI! Kristin finished 3rd in the DGPT Points Standings and 1st in both media votes and tour card holders’ votes. But since Missy finished 2nd in both media and card holders’ votes, Missy won on the points tiebreaker and is the 2024 DGPT FPO POY.

Via r/discgolf

Missy played 7 more events, totaling 22, yet Tattar, who “only” played 15, was right behind her in total earnings for 2024 and outperformed her in nearly every major stat category. Furthermore, Missy had 1402.88 points in the Tour Standings, while Tattar, having played 7 fewer events, finished with 1370.25.

Regardless of what the DGPT or PDGA says, in my honest and unbiased opinion

Kristin Tattar is the real 2024 FPO Player of the Year!

The stats speak for themselves. Just take a look at these numbers displayed below and try to convince me that Tattar does not deserve to win the 2024 DGPT FPO Player of the Year title

Oh, and let’s not forget! Tattar was also the first FPO player ever to reach the 1000-rated milestone.

This is Tattar’s second time making the list in as many years. Last year she placed 84th.

Every year, Estonia’s media outlet Eesti PĂ€evaleht compiles a list of the 100 most influential people in the country. The list includes the Prime Minister, ministers, the President, billionaires, mayors, politicians, military personnel, business tycoons, athletes, and more.
