The 3 Best Disc Golf Rangefinders

How far is the basket? How long is this hole? What’s the distance to the mandatory? How far did I throw? – Do these questions sound familiar? There’s an easy answer to all of these questions. Get yourself a disc golf rangefinder!

A disc golf rangefinder has become one of the most important devices that I’ve become accustomed to using on the course. The primary purpose of a rangefinder is simple, to measure distances between you and the target. It is therefore an amazing gadget to have given that it only has one relatively simple purpose.

What to look for before buying a rangefinder?

All of the rangefinders listed in this article will be able to tell you distances swiftly, but some of them also have extra features. For example, flag & slope technology and speed mode, while not always necessary, are truly great to have.

Before choosing which disc golf rangefinder is best for you, consider the following questions:

  • Are you really going to use it?
  • How much are you willing to spend?
  • What additional features do you want your rangefinder to have?

Why should you use a disc golf rangefinder?

Using a rangefinder will enable you to:

  • Determine the distance between you and the object with extreme precision;
  • Select the proper disc for the specified distance;
  • Improve your view of the course’s design;
  • View any potential obstructions on the way.

Luckily for us, there’s a wide range of devices and price points available on the market. But which ones are the best for disc golf? Don’t worry about that, I got you covered! Among the best advantages of playing a lot of disc golf and having access to various golf equipment is that I get to try and test a lot of products. Rangefinders are one of these products. I’ve tried and tested multiple rangefinders and here are the best ones I’ve come across so far.

The Best Rangefinders for Disc Golf

My #1 Pick – Infinite Discs Apex NP600 Rangefinder

Infinite Discs Apex NP600 rangefinder

The Infinite Discs APEX NP600 is the best disc golf rangefinder on the market! It’s a rangefinder specifically made for disc golf and if you’re into the nerdy stuff the APEX NP600 uses 905 nanometer class 1 laser to measure distances between 10 to 2000 feet away (3 to 610 meters). It also comes in a carrying case, but the case isn’t fully enclosed, so debris, such as dust and dirt can get in and on the device & lenses. However, this can easily be avoided if you are just a little bit prudent and take care of your equipment.

One of the best features of the Infinite Discs APEX NP600 is that it can measures the speed of an object moving towards and away from the device. In addition, it can measure the height difference between two objects and and the device will storage the last 20 readings you took.

The biggest upgrade from the NF600 model is that the NP600 has a rechargeable battery and comes with a charging cable.

PS! The APEX NP600 can deliver distances in yards, feet or meters and it can measure with a precision of ±1.5ft (~0.5 meters).

APEX NP600 rangefinder PROS:

  • Measures distance in feet, yards and meters;
  • Small and compact;
  • Cheaper than the Bushnell EDGE rangefinder;
  • Measures speed of an object (3-185 mph)
  • Measures distances between 10 to 2000 feet.
  • Extremely precise ±1.5ft (~0.5 meters);
  • Rechargeable battery;
  • Waterproof, dustproof.

The Most Popular Disc Golf Rangefinder

My #2 Pick – Bushnell EDGE Disc Golf Rangefinder

Bushnell EDGE disc golf rangefinder, is this the best disc golf rangefinder of all time

The Bushnell EDGE rangefinder is the most popular disc golf rangefinder on the market right now. Why, you ask? Mostly because Bushnell is sponsoring a lot of touring disc golf professionals and handing out the EDGE rangefinders like candy and they are even running ads on the Disc Golf Network and other media platforms.

But as you can see popularity does not equal to being the best on the market. I personally think the AOFAR GX-2S and Infinite Discs APEX NF600 rangefinders are a bit better than the Bushnell EDGE, mainly because of the price point and the feel of the product. Although, this doesn’t mean the Bushnell EDGE isn’t worth the money, quite the opposite, it’s a solid product and it gets the job done.

In fact, it’s purpose-built for disc golf and its Z-mode technology will come in quite handy. Z-mode tech instantly calculates elevation changes relative to your position. For example, distance to the basket is 300 feet, but it’s downhill and plays like 250′, so instead of throwing a midrange you might want to go with a putter, simple as that.

NB! Bushnell also offers an exo-armor for the rangefinder made out of silicone to prevent damage or scratches to the device. Check it out by clicking here.

Bushnell EDGE rangefinder PROS

  • Measures distance in feet or meters;
  • User friendly;
  • Most popular disc golf rangefinder on the market;
  • Used by a lot of pro disc golfers;
  • Lightweight, 180 grams;
  • Compact and small;
  • Battery included;
  • Waterproof, dustproof.

CONS

  • No carrying case;
  • A bit more expensive compared to other mentioned rangefinders;
  • Not USB-chargeable;
  • No speed measurement feature.

My #3 Pick – AOFAR GX-2S Rangefinder

AOFAR GX-2S rangefinder, reasonably priced rangefinder for disc golf

The AOFAR GX-2S is my personal favorite disc golf rangefinder that I’ve come across thus far. It’s relatively cheap (compared to the Bushnell EDGE rangefinder), easy to use and measures quickly & accurately.

I use my AOFAR GX-2S frequently to measure distances on the disc golf course. It’s lightweight, only 180 grams, and to be honest, it looks cool and professional, especially the black/red design.

NB! The biggest drawback of this device is that it measures distance only in meters or yards!

Additionally, one of my favorite features with this particular rangefinder is that it comes in a case which protects it from the elements and wear & tear while travelling in your bag. So you really don’t have to worry about damaging the device while searching for your shanked discs in the forest.

How far and precisely can the AOFAR GX-2S rangefinder measure?

The AOFAR GX-2S rangefinder can accurately measure to 500-600 yards (450-550 meters) with a accuracy of ±1yd. (~1 meter).

What does it look like if you watch through the AOFAR GX-2S rangefinder
What do you see when you look through a rangefinder? That’s what!

The GX-2S has a high-definition clear LCD display with a 6X magnification, making it easy to spot a basket or any other target from far away. In addition, AOFAR says that the device has an accuracy of ±1yd. (~1 meter). Furthermore, it has the latest AI technology with pinseeker feature and slope switch technology.

AOFAR GX-2S rangefinder PROS

  • Comes in a carrying case;
  • Easy to use;
  • Accuracy of ±1yd. (~1 meter);
  • Relatively cheap compared to the Bushnell EDGE rangefinder;
  • Battery included;
  • Waterproof and dustproof;
  • Lightweight, small and practical;
  • An auto-off system to save battery life;
  • A digital display with all the necessary extras;
  • 6X magnification;

  • Does NOT measure in FEET! Only in yards or meters!;
  • No speed measurement feature;
