Disc golf in Estonia continued to grow in 2021, mainly due to constant lockdowns as new varients continued to pop-up. People were looking for alternative outdoor sporting activities and they stumbled across disc golf, which is extremely beginner friendly, affordable and overall a fun outdoor activity.
At the end of 2021, Estonia had a total of ~1950 PDGA members of which 1253 were active PDGA members. For example, in 2020, Estonia had 1018 active PDGA members. Source: PDGA Database.
Before diving into Estonia’s numbers, let’s take a fast glimpse how’s disc golf doing in Europe.
TOP 5 European countries by current PDGA membership (as of December 1st 2021):
- Finland – 4206 active members
- Sweden – 3777
- Norway – 2203
- Estonia – 1232
- Denmark – 937
At the end of 2021, Europe had 16 231 active PDGA members, with a growth rate of 48.7% compared to 2020.

Statistics by Disc Golf Metrix and PDGA.
According to Disc Golf Metrix, Estonia’s player base grew 14.2% in 2021, from 19 995 to 23 309 of which 12 043 players were active in 2021.
Black line represents overall registered users, blue line represents players who have played at least once a year. NB! Some numbers may differ because the graphs were made on 14th December vs statistics are from 31st December 2021.
Same statistics about Estonia’s female disc golf players, there were a total of 4580 and 1812 of them played at least once a year.

As Disc Golf Metrix has it’s own rating system, quite similar to PDGA rating points, there were a total of 545 different players who managed to play a round of disc golf, which was rated 1000 or higher.
2021 highest Metrix rated round was recorded by Roland Kõur on 23rd October 2021, he got an amazing 1133 rating points for a round of disc golf, which is one of the highest rated rounds ever recorded in Disc Golf Metrix history. On the graph down below, we can see disc golf rounds played in Estonia from the start of 2015 to the end of 2021. The year 2021 peaked at May 10th to 16th (one week), when players recorded a total of 18 138 rounds in a single week!
